The Ozark Pastel Society was originally formed because pastel artists had no separate category in regional competitions. Three pastelists from Neosho, Missouri organized the group that became the Ozark Pastel society in 1987. After we organized, the first regional competition agreed to give us a pastel division if OPS would provide the funds for the pastel category awards, and that was accomplished. We now have members in 5 states and are recognized by the International Pastel Society. We hold an annual Ozark Pastel Society membership show, which we have opened to pastel artists in the past three years. We have meetings every month in varying locations, several ‘paint-outs’ and plein air events.
